Derivan remains an Australian-owned family business, and our commitment is to support both the Arts Community that supports us, and the larger community.
To do this we sponsor a number of arts-related projects. Some recent highlights are posted below.
2010 Amnesty International People's Choice Awards

Anna Topalidon is the winner of the 2010 Amnesty International People's Choice Awards help at the TAP Gallery for her work titled "That Children May Play".
Australian Society of Miniature Art - Acrylics Winner
Eva Barry won the Acrylics category at the National Awards Exhibition of the Australian Society of Miniature Art with her work 'Cool Summer'. The images below show the winning painting as well as Eva being presented with her award, sponsored by Derivan, by the judge Lou Klepac.
Derivan Sponsors Ride2School Competition

Using colours, pictures, and creative flair, students designed the artwork for a helmet that’s bright and stands out from the crowd.
The helmet artwork needed to appeal to all students both males and females and make being safe cool on the Ride2School! The competition was open to all primary and secondary school students in NSW
There will be 3 finalists and 1 winner from each region of NSW who will win a bicycle, a helmet and other cycling goodies. One of the regional winners will be selected as the overall winner and have their artwork printed on the RIDE2SCHOOL HELMET which will be available for sale across the state and they will also win a cycleskill workshop for their school!
Artstreet Prize Winner
This year's winner of the Artstreet Prize, in the Youth category accepts her prize of products donated by Derivan.
Matisse Acrylics in Antarctica
Matisse paints are being used as far south as one can go, and in the coldest conditions one is likely to encounter. Steven Eastaugh, resident artist in Antartica for a whole year, is the first Australian arts fellow to winter over.
When Steven goes to his studio to paint, it is necessary for him to hold on to a rope to travel the twenty-five metres from his living quarters to his studio, shown in the picture below.

Irish Girl Guides Celebrate 100 years
These Irish Girl Guides had a wonderful party to launch their celebrations of 100 years. Hundreds attended, and many enjoyed having their faces painted with Face Paint donated by Derivan.

"Art In The Making" - Moruya Public School
We're pleased to post these fantastic pictures from Moruya Public School's Art In The Making program.
The students, with the aid of local artists, aimed to produce one or more major works per class. The children were involved with the artists from concept to completion, and the works they produced were then exhibited for public viewing and auction, with the funds raised going to support future arts programs at the school.
Derivan donated premium artist acrylics to ensure these works, pictured below, would maintain their stunning colours indefinitely.
As you can see, it was a resounding success!

Picowsso at the 2009 Royal Easter Show
Continuing our involvement with the Picowsso Project, we donated paint for the decoration of even more cows, which were painted at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Artist Peter Griffin can be seen below painting some of those areas more difficult to reach.
Starlight Foundation

Craftfest 2009 Gold Coast & Homebush Bay
At Craftfest on the Gold Coast from March 27-29, Matisse paints were donated to paint an enormous panel 9 metres wide by 2.1 metres high. The panels were prepared by the Decorative Folk Artists of Queensland in conjunction with the Folk and Decorative Artists of Australia. Members of the public paid a gold coin donation to paint a portion of it. All proceeds went to the Clown Doctors. The panels were completed by members of the Folk & Decorative Artists of Australia at the Sttches and Craft Show at Homebush Bay in Sydney.
Warnervale & Districts Annual Fair
Derivan face paint was donated for use at the Warnervale and District Annual Fair where the 1st Kanwal Scouts painted hundreds of faces and arms. There was a great deal of pleasure in seeing youth engaging with the children at the fair and in providing another free activity this year in such a difficult economic time for families.
Amnesty Art Prize - Tap Gallery
The Amnesty Art Prize at the Tap Gallery was held in late January 2009. The winner was Angel Scales for her painting "Spiritual Freedom for Tibet".
Angel is a graduate of the University of Newcastle, and is currently undertaking further study at the Julian Ashton School.
Archibald Prize Entrants - Tallowood Primary & Nambucca Pre-school
Three children from Tallowood primary school and four children from Nambucca pre-school have been involved in a program called K.A.R.T., a developmental program based on fine art principles and observational techniques.
The culmination of twelve months of participating in the program ended with a portrait of Ken Done which was entered into the 2009 Archibald Prize. This painting had excellent coverage on the ABC news on the day paintings were delivered to the Art Gallery of NSW.
Derivan donated all the paint used in the painting of the portrait.
Cessnock Regional Gallery
Cessnock Regional Art Gallery opened its doors to the public for the first time on January 12th 2009. Located in the main street of Cessnock, in the former Hunter Water Board building, the Gallery’s exhibition program will open in June 2009. Until then, they are running art workshops for 5-105 year olds and signing up members.
Here are some artists enjoying their inaugural School Holiday Program. As you can see they used our products, and wore our aprons.
The Gallery is in the process of setting up a website where you will soon see their exhibition program, changing every 6-8 weeks, the education program for children, students, adults and schools as well as the opportunity to become a member, volunteer, sponsor or make donations. They are a not for profit organization depending on private funding, grants and donations to keep the doors open.
