Mt Fitton Talc
One of Mt Fitton Talc’s most useful attributes is that the artist may carve into it or sand it perfectly smooth. This talc is mined at Mt Fitton in South Australia. It has a layered plate structure with weak attractive forces that allow the plates to slip past each other easily. This specific property makes it very useful for thickening, as it allows for easy sanding to a smooth surface. It is one of the softest minerals known. Use for paintings, mixed media, collage and collograph plates. Use up to equal parts talc, with MM2 Impasto Medium, MM4 Gel Medium, MM6 Polymer Matt Varnish (water-based), MM7 Gloss Varnish and Gloss Medium, MM28 Polymer Satin Varnish (water-based) or MM30 Matt Gel Medium for sculptural effects. For outside works of art add a protective varnish or top coat. Oil painters can mix Mt Fitton Talc with their favourite appropriate oil painting mediums, however it is recommended that testing should always be done before the medium is used on artwork.
